As the moon rose above campus on Saturday night, the school witnessed a historical wave of violence like never before. On the paths, students held onto their friends for dear life as they uneasily made their way across campus. Outside of Head’s House, assassins waited in the shadows, hoping to find the perfect moment to attack.
Successful assassins decimated their list of targets throughout the night, including Ian Plankey, who was quite proud of his three-person consecutive kill streak. Plankey had just assassinated Eliza when he headed into Dahl to eliminate Ian Lebish. Luckily, Lebish was easily drawn into the hallway with the help of his roommate Asad. He was murdered on the spot. When Lebish disclosed that his target had been Ant, Plankey’s destiny was realized as he remembered passing Ant moments before on his way into Dahl. Without hesitation, Plankey “turned around and sprinted after Ant and he had no clue what was going on.” This impressive streak put Plankey at five kills, which he believes is the record so far (as of Sunday afternoon).
Other aspiring assassins had less heartwarming stories. Louise, who thought she was looking out for a vulnerable friend, approached Ella DA. When she reached her arm out to bring Ella to safety, she was met with an unpleasant surprise. Ella’s arm extended first, and before Louise could do anything, she was dead. Although this was certainly a tough way to go, it taught her an important lesson. “Stop being nice to people, you will get killed,” she said. Whether Louise will be able to live by this standard, nobody can be certain.
As the numbers dwindle, we can expect to see strategic plays from the most elite competitors. Friends will betray friends, and weaker players will inevitably make themselves too vulnerable to their competitors. Eventually, the number of those still alive will approach zero, and we will see who has what it takes to win Assassin. Aaron Borgani, who took third place in Assassin last year but was less fortunate this time around, “wishes the best of luck to all competitors and hopes Ian Plankey wins for his dedication, time, and effort.”
