SALT Interviews Caroline Miller ’26
At Holderness, the community is always a top priority for our students and faculty. One of the many ways we reinforce this value is through our sports teams. Girls JV Soccer is one of the many teams that has displayed an admirable bond this Fall 2022 season. Out of curiosity for a closer look into the team, the Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) decided to interview team member Caroline Miller ‘26.
With the current winning record of 7-3, we wanted to know what exactly made our Girls JV Soccer team stand out. According to Miller, the team works hard to perfect its strong defense lines. The girls on the team maintain a high level of energy and communication, which leads them to their victories.
The successful team has many strengths including defense and moving the ball to the midfield and up to their offensive end. As mentioned above, communication is also a highlight for this team and their member. Though they have many strengths, the team is always looking for ways to improve their game. Miller says that Coach Paro encourages the girls to work on taking more shots on goal at a faster pace.
On a less serious note, many teams have pre-game rituals or routines that help hype them up for their game. Miller says that Girls JV Soccer relies on music to build up their energy. Whether it’s getting hyped for a home game in the locker room or singing on the bus ride to an away game, the girls never cease to keep their energy level high.
The most important aspect of this JV team that Miller stressed is something that all Holderness teams strive to achieve: a positive spirit and friendship. Miller gives credit to Eliza Mellon ‘25 and Coach Bruce Paro for always cracking jokes and keeping the energy positive and fun.
