This year, the legendary rivalry between the Holderness Bulls and the Proctor Hornets is set for a weekend of hard-fought games to determine who will be taking home the granite. The Bulls defend the rock, coming off of a near blowout win last year. The Bulls host the showdown between the two Lakes Region powerhouses this year. Each win earns a point for that team’s school. After every game has finished, the heads of school will award the winning school the trophy.

As the Bulls begin the countdown, the annual Kimball Union Academy Day gave us a sample of the friendly yet fierce competition to come. Each Holderness team played and competed to outlast the Wildcats and win the day. Although not as prominent as the rivalry with Proctor, Kimball Union served as a great practice test for our school spirit as we wait in anticipation for one of the most exciting days of the year.

In previous years, I have witnessed this competition both on the fields and in the woods. As a 9th grader, the JV2 soccer team was my fall family. We battled it out in each half, through the bitter cold, only to tie the Hornets 3-3. After finding the mountain biking team more enjoyable, I toughed it out in the cold again, winning the tandem bike relay race and flying through the woods during an endurance relay to help take home the overall win for Holderness. With high hopes and visions of flying paint at the bonfire, the Holderness community looks forward to this tradition which is set to be a fun series of games and competitions.
